Jotamastic 87 is a high solids, high build, two pack surface tolerant epoxy mastic with excellent abrasion and corrosion resistance. The aluminium version is recommended as a first coat to provide extra corrosion and water resistance. It can be applied by Airless spray, brush or Roller. Jotamastic 87 Surface Tolerant Epoxy Primer is designed for use on steel when abrasive blast cleaning may not be possible. Jotamastic 87 Primer may be used above and below the water line, the winter grade version can be applied at sub zero temperatures. It is resistant to continuous operating temps of 120c and in immersed seawater at 50c.

Jotamastic 87 is a two pack epoxy semigloss suitable for use in atmospheric and immersed environments as a primer or intermediate coat in a multicoat system. It can be applied direct to carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanised steel, aluminium and over previously coated surfaces. Jotamastic 87 is recommended for marine and offshore environments, new construction,  marine hulls, topside and superstructures. It can be applied up to 300 microns in a single coat by airless spray, two coats may be required to achieve the recommended DFT by roller.

The typical recommended specification range for the film thickness is 150 – 300 μm for dry film thickness, 180 – 365 μm for wet film thickness and 5.5 – 2.7 m²/l for the theoretical spreading rate.

To secure the lasting adhesion to the subsequent product all surfaces must be clean, dry and free from any contamination. For a carbon steel and shop primed steel surface it is recommended that the surface is blast cleaned which makes it free of all visible oil, grease, dirt, dust, rust or any existing coatings. For coated surfaces it is recommended that the surface is clean, dry and doesn’t have any damaged coatings.

Depending on the substrate temperature you are applying the coating at will depend on how fast the drying and curing time will be. The fastest the product will dry is at 40°C which will result in the product being touch dry in 2 hours, walk-on-dry in 4 hours, dry to over coat in 4 hours and dried/cured for service in 2 days.

Jotsamstic 87 is also able to resist a continuous heat of up to 120°C in dry and atmospheric environments and a continuous heat of up to 50°C as well as a peak heat of 60°C in immersed sea water environments.
